Lucknow: Kakori police have arrested a wanted accused in connection with the theft of mobile phones from a shop after its shutter was allegedly broken open. Police said several stolen electronic items and cash were recovered from his possession.
The recovered items include one laptop, five smartphones, two keypad mobile phones, two pairs of earbuds and ₹1,120 in cash.
According to police, on July 23, 2026, Vishwajeet Yadav, a resident of Tikaria, lodged a complaint alleging that unidentified thieves had broken the shutter of his shop and stolen smartphones. A case was subsequently registered at Kakori police station and police and surveillance teams were deployed to identify those involved.
Police said two other accused, Ajit Yadav and Pawan Kumar, had earlier been arrested and sent to jail in connection with the case. Ten stolen smartphones, earbuds, a power bank and ₹5,005 in cash were reportedly recovered from them.
The police had been searching for Ajay Rajput, son of Vijay Rajput, a resident of Durgaganj under Kakori police station, who was wanted in the same case.
Arrest Near Mohiddinpur Underpass
Acting on information received from an informer, a Kakori police team intercepted a suspicious person near the railway line at the Mohiddinpur underpass.
During questioning, the man identified himself as Ajay Rajput. Police said a search resulted in the recovery of four smartphones, an earbud and ₹1,120 in cash from his possession.
Police further said that a bag carried by the accused contained one laptop, one boxed mobile phone, one earbud, one headphone and two keypad mobile phones.
The accused was taken into police custody at around 11:45 pm after being informed of the case and relevant legal provisions. Further legal proceedings are underway.

Police said Ajay Rajput has several previous cases registered against him at Kakori, Malihabad and Dubagga police stations, including cases related to theft and assault.
